Seojin Yeon, the Writer of TENEBRIS Series

J. R. R. 톨킨, 린킨 파크의 보컬리스트였던 체스터 베닝턴, 영화 감독 크리스토퍼 놀란의 팬이다. 또한 엘든 링, 다크 소울 3, 위쳐와 같은 다크 판타지 장르의 게임을 주로 좋아한다. 전문적으로 문학이나 글쓰기에 대해 공부한 적은 없다. 

테네브리스 시리즈 작업에서 초안과 퇴고 등 독자들에게 직접적으로 보여지는 글 작업을 담당하고 있으며, 유리, 카이 등 주요 캐릭터와 세계관의 밑바탕이 되는 요소들의 구상을 하였다. 또한 본 사이트에 게시된 캐릭터 초상화 스케치(외모 디자인)는 대부분 작가의 상상에서 탄생했다.

톨킨 작품 이외에 좋아하는 책은 주제 사라마구의 <눈먼 자들의 도시>, 안제이 사프콥스키의 소설 <위쳐> 시리즈, 파울로 코엘료의 <연금술사>.

체스터 베닝턴 이외에 좋아하는 음악가는 다크 소울 3, 세키로 등의 OST를 담당한 키타무라 유카, 프레데리크 쇼팽 등이 있으며 이들의 음악 또한 테네브리스의 구상에 일부 영감을 주었다.

Yoojin Choi, the Co-Creator of TENEBRIS Universe

작가 연서진과 마찬가지로 J. R. R. 톨킨과 체스터 베닝턴의 팬이다. 영미문학을 공부한 경험이 있으며, 영어와 일본어에 능통하다. 

가장 좋아하는 영화는 스티븐 스필버그의 <쥬라기 공원>과 다크 나이트 트릴로지 중 히스 레저의 조커가 등장하는 두 번째 작품.

<테네브리스>의 구상은 수많은 작품과 인생 경험에서 영감을 받았으나, 세계관 공동 창작자인 최유진 또한 작품의 영감이 된 사람 중 한 명이다.

테네브리스 시리즈 작업에서 편집자 같은 역할을 하고 있으며, 유리, 카이와 같은 메인 캐릭터들 이외에도 선우 등의 조연 캐릭터들, 테네브리스 세계관의 주 무대인 "이나실"을 더욱 풍부하게 만들어주는 많은 요소들과 아이디어를 제공하였으며 이중 일부는 그의 인생 경험을 바탕으로 영감을 받았다.

좋아하는 게임은 <폴아웃 3>, <폴아웃: 뉴 베가스>, <스타크래프트>, <엘든 링> 등.

Seojin Yeon is the writer of TENEBRIS series. Yeon came up with the ideas for TENEBRIS some time around the end of 2019, based on a short story she wrote between 2016 and 2017 which was about a human sorceress who fell in love with an elven mage, while being tormented by the vampire king. it was more of a romance rather than dark fantasy then, but she chose to change the main theme of the story after watching Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins, and it gave her the idea for the series' main theme, "Fear".

With her unfortunate background childhood memories and inspirations from J. R. R. Tolkien, Christopher Nolan's work and with the experience of playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, she began working on the plot for book 1(TENEBRIS: The Fear from the Past), characters and many other elements for its universe also inspired by korean traditional culture (Joseon Dynasty mostly). Some time around 2022 and 2023, when almost finished with book 2 and started working on the first draft for book 3, she was introduced to FromSoftware's games by Yoojin Choi, the co-creator of TENEBRIS universe. They started working on book 3 and 4 while playing ELDEN RING, SEKIRO: Shadows Die Twice and DARK SOULS III; however, these games are not the direct inspirations for book 3 and 4. The main plots were already planned as of November - December 2021.

Yeon has no experience of studying writing or literature professionally.

Her favorite musicians are Chester Bennington from LINKIN PARK, Yuka Kitamura and Frédéric Chopin who also gave her inspiration for writing the series. 

Yoojin Choi is the co-creator of TENEBRIS universe. One of the main characters in the series is inspired by him. Choi gave Yeon the ideas for the books, including main events of the series such as political conflicts and wars between each races. He grew up reading J. R. R. Tolkien's books written in the original English drafts, and studied English literature. 

When Yeon first started working on TENEBRIS, her plan was to finish the story with book 1. however, Choi came up with new ideas to extend the story, adding new characters and elements with bigger scales such as wars, political conflicts, description of emotions for each characters and their secrets. Some of supporting characters in book 2 and 3 are created by Choi.

He can speak English and Japanese fluently and is a fan of Chester Bennington. Choi is also a fan of games, such as Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Starcraft, Elden Ring and more. His favorite movies are The Dark Knight(starring Heath Ledger as Joker) and Jurassic Park the movie from 1993.
